About ATASS

Where We Come From

The story began in 1998 when Mark Dixon, a University statistics lecturer, decided to set up his own one-man-band consultancy, offering statistical modelling and research services.

'Advanced Training and Statistical Services,' or ATASS for short, was so-named in order to feature prominently in the Yellow Pages. Increasingly, Mark's passion for football led him to take on more and more sports-related work until by 2001 Mark and a handful of people were working from his home office under the new identity of ATASS Sports.

By this time, Mark's ground-breaking work as a mathematician had been featured on Tomorrow's World and his vision for growing the company began to take shape.

Where We Are

Ten years later, ATASS Sports is the market leader in its field and together the ATASS Group employs over a hundred people across a diverse range of businesses. Each one of these enterprises has been formed from a common set of principles:

  • Sometimes other things matter more than profit
  • What matters most is protecting our environment
  • It's greatest protection lies in the wisdom of our children

Without the extraordinary success we have enjoyed in our profit-making enterprises, we would not be able to make the difference we do in our community. At ATASS, the two go hand-in-hand. As Mark has said, 'the more successful we become, the bigger the difference we can make.'

Where We're Going

Our programme of expansion across the Group is well underway and set to continue. Yet despite the dramatic growth, one thing has never changed: we're proud of the friendly and supportive culture that gives each one of us such an exciting and enjoyable working life.

Next year will see the opening of our state-of-the-art headquarters on Exeter Business Park: Oxygen House – pictured here at its 'Topping Out' ceremony. During the design phase, the Oxygen was awarded the coveted BREEAM Excellent rating, making it officially the greenest office design in Exeter, ever.
